Still comparatively little known to the English, Serre-Chevalier Vallée, in the Hautes-Alpes in south eastern France, is the collective name for 13 villages stretching 15km along the Guisane Valley to Briançon.

Serre-Chevalier is France’s highest Alpine town and UNESCO site, with the main ski stations in Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Monêtier. It is France’s largest ski resort not connected to other resorts, and boasts an average of 300 days sunshine every year, with 80km of slopes covered by snow cannons to supplement natural snowfall.

New for the 2013-14 season is the Serre-Ratier gondola.  The first section of the cable car dated back to 1941 and has now been replaced by a next generation panoramic gondola with eight seats in each cabin.
Also new this Winter are two four-star hotels in Villeneuve la Salle:  Le Grand Aigle Hôtel & Spa and the Rock Noir Design Hotel & Spa are just perfect to head back to after a hard day of hitting the slopes to experience luxurious steam rooms, Jacuzzis, spa and beauty treatments.

Serre Chevalier Vallée provides snow-sure, larch-lined slopes – most over 2,000m – on a big, varied mountain offering skiing and snowboarding for all abilities. Families are especially welcomed by friendly, English-speaking locals who offer good-value hotels, restaurants and chalets.  There are ski school facilities in every village and the whole family will enjoy the Mélèzone picnic area in the woods and the Ecrins National Park, a protected environment at the foot of the most beautiful peaks in the Alps.

Serre Chevalier Vallée is easy to reach, about eight hours by car from Calais on a super-efficient network of motorways; by rail direct to Briançon; and a choice of airports: Turin, Grenoble and Lyon, serve the resort within easy transfer time.

And this season, Serre Chevalier Vallée is offering an amazing ski season deal.  When you book seven nights’ self-catering accommodation (from just €199pp) you get a six-day lift pass for free. Children 6-11 years can benefit from the same deal from €173pp and seniors aged 65-74 from €186pp. Children under six years receive a free lift pass.  But don’t delay, this offer is for selected dates only.  There is also a special seven-night/six-day lift pass and self catering deal for families of four (two adults and two children) for €1,301 during Christmas and February half term.
