A huge new watersports and wellness complex will open in the Three Valleys this winter between Courchevel Village (1550) and Courchevel Moriond (1650).

Aquamotion, which opens in December, will have a 25m swimming pool, a three-lane water slide, 190m² outdoor and 170m² indoor lagoon, 110m-long wild water rapid area, a 4m diving pool and baby swimming pool. It will also have the first indoor surfing/wakeboard wave of its kind in France.

The centre’s wellbeing area will feature 19 treatment rooms, a salt-water pool, outdoor Jacuzzi, three Finnish saunas, a caldarium, a steam bath and indoor and outdoor jet stream pools. The building and its pools are heated by wood.

Aquamotion project has cost €63 million, funded by the municipality of Courchevel. It has been designed, completely open to the environment and with a roof covered with vegetation to “disappear into nature” by German architecture firm Auer-Weber and partners, which is renowned for integrating buildings into their environment.

“Our visitors’ needs are changing, and a stay in the mountains is no longer limited to coming here to ski,’ says Philippe Mugnier, mayor of Courchevel.

‘Most of our visitors are looking for a more global mountain experience. In a single family or among a group of friends, some people want to go skiing, some just want to relax and catch up with friends. Aquamotion is all this at the same time.’

No entry fee details are available yet, but for more information visit aquamotion-courchevel.com
