Airport strikes called off
The three strikes planned at BAA’s seven UK airports have been cancelled.
The news comes just days after unions announced that the first strike, planned for Monday 6 January, was dropped. They have now called off further action due on 14 & 17 January.
The decision to call off the industrial action, which would have affected 1.3 million passengers using BAA’s airports (including Gatwick and Heathrow), came as the company relaxed plans to change pension rights.
The first talks to avert the strikes took place last Monday, resulting in a positive deal to hold “proper consultations” before any changes to pension arrangements were made. Thankfully, for those of us heading out to the slopes in the next two weeks - today’s result (Friday 4 January) is good news.
