Bands announced for Ischgl concerts

20th February 2008, by Chris Gill

Ischgl has announced another cracking musical line-up for its legendary Top of the Mountain concerts. Following last year’s star acts Melanie C and the Scissor Sisters, and this year’s opener Rihanna, the resort has signed up the Stereophonics and Sir Elton John.

The Stereophonics, whose last five albums have all reached No 1 in the charts, will perform at Idalp (2320m) on Easter Sunday, 23 March. Not quite “Bank Holiday Monday” [recent single]...but a holiday all the same.

Sir Elton John will close out the 2007/08 winter season on Sunday 4 May. It will be his second appearance at the event - the first in 1995! The lunchtime gig will also take place at Idalp (2320m), at the top station of the main gondola from the village.

Ischgl Tourist Director Andreas Steibl said: “We are very excited to have signed Sir Elton to perform his second concert at Ischgl - he is one of the world’s biggest stars. It will be a fabulous concert and a great way to round off what is proving to be a fantastic season with wonderful snow for our skiers and boarders.”

And if you are on the mountain on 20 April, another concert is scheduled for the Samnaun side (Switzerland). Reggae star Jimmy Cliff will keep you grooving at Alp Trida.

As in previous years, the concerts are free - all you need is a lift pass.
