The Dolomiti Superski, a ski pass network in Northern Italy that includes 1200km of pistes and 12 ski resorts over its total area has invested €90million for the coming winter in celebration of its 45th anniversary.

The Dolomiti Superski takes in, among other resorts, ” target=“_blank”>Cortina d’Ampezzo, Alta Badia, Val Gardena, Arabba, Val di Fassa and San Martino di Castrozza, and this season boasts a number of new pistes, restaurants, lifts, upgrades and snowmaking.

Some 75 per cent of the €90million spend has been on installing new lifts and cable cars, and upgrading existing infrastructure. Across the region, lifts are being restyled and gondola and cable car cabins replaced, while some of the key new lifts include the replacement of the two-seater lifts “Roby” in Alta Badia, “Mezdi” at the Seiser Alm and Mittelstation in the Three Peaks Dolomites with six-man chairlifts. And in San Martin di Castrozza, a new 10-man gondola called the Colbricon Express will replace the old three- and four-man chairlifts. On the Gitscberg mountain in the Gitschberg-Jochtal ski resort, the Sergerwiese and Breiteben lifts are being replaced by another new 10-seater gondola that will be called “Ski Express”.

There are a number of new pistes for the 2018/19 winter, including the “Panoramica Druscié in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the “Signaue II” in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski resort and the “Busabella” in the Alpe Cermis in Val di Fiemme. And in Gitschberg-Jochtal, the “Wastl Huber” ski run will flank the new Ski Express gondola.

To add to the Dolomiti Superski’s already impressive snow-making ability, more than €25 has been spent on snowmaking for the coming winter with a number of resorts installing new snow generators, pipeworks, cooling towers, pumping stations and water reservoirs — allowing the ski season to start in late November, whatever the weather.

In 2009, the Dolomites were awarded Natural World Heritage Status, officially classified as among the most beautiful mountains in the world and this winter, rather fittingly, a new international mountain photography museum “Lumen” along with a gourmet restaurant under Michelin star rated chef Norbert Niederkofler opens at Kronplatz.
