Europa-Sportregion name dropped

Austrian neighbours Zell am See and Kaprun have dropped the marketing name used to describe their region. The two ski areas share a lift pass and have, until recently, called themselves the Europa-Sportregion. Now they are simply known as ‘Zell am See-Kaprun’.

The resorts wanted to highlight their Alpine attractions - with particular emphasis on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. A new-look website has appeared under the former Europa-Sportregion link for now, with ‘Glacier, Mountain, Lake’ as the catchwords and a new logo in corresponding blue, white and green: a clearer, simpler image to market the area.

“From now on we want to focus on the features which are typical for Austria. The region offers perfect conditions for some sports and leisure time activities,” says Managing Director of Marketing, Hans Wallner.

The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is one of the few remaining to offer almost year-round snowsports, with new lifts and terrain features recently expanded. In winter, skiers and boarders have 136km/85 miles piste at their disposal across the two mountains - Schmittenhöhe and Maiskogel, above Zell’s pretty lakeside setting. In summer, golf, watersports and hill-walking are popular pursuits.
