It’s snow festival time…

Pump up the adrenalin, crank up the stereo. You know it is March when the spring event and party season kicks off…

Be the Boss

What began 20 years ago as a ski-bum rivalry has since become Europe’s largest inter-resort mogul challenge and snow-fest - all taking place beneath the tough slopes (des Bosses) of the Grand Montets, Chamonix.

The Boss des Bosses is all about metal - not the heavy kind, but the competition kind - launching into a mass of snowy bumps; a knee-jarring descent that will crown the winner as the Boss and determine which resort has the best skiers. Last year, Zermatt took the title.

As well as attracting hundred’s of season workers, the best mogul and freestyle skiers from many of Europe’s top resorts will be in Chamonix for des Bosses - including Glen Plake. And it’s all about partying too, with BBQ’s and beers on the slopes and a music festival and top DJ’s around the town.

And if moguls are your thing, Zermatt’s classic Bump Bash event is 4 to 12 April 2009

Snow joke

For a slightly more sedate, but equally as lively event, Meribel will host the second Altitude Festival on 18 March - a combination of comic relief (no, we don’t mean Lenny Henry and co) and snow-related laughter. Organised by a comedian and a businessman, the shows proved a great success last year so they are back for more.

The event brings together over 25 comedians at around 100 gigs lined up for the resort between 28 March and 3 April. As well as the laughter inside, you’ll find plenty of organised fun outside - such as a mass snowball fight. And several top bands/DJ’s are lined up for the musical entertainment.

Expect the resort to be extra busy during that period too, as a couple of slope side freestyle competitions are due to take place and will attract plenty of snowboard enthusiasts.
