More Italian resorts open

7th December 2005, by Chris Gill

Another thirteen Italian resorts have begun their 2005/06 winter season early.

As the snow arrived in Italy, more resorts geared up for the new season and opened earlier than scheduled. Ski areas in the Dolomites and Milky Way regions joined the few already open and prepared to welcome their winter guests. Many are reporting snowfalls of up to 50cm in places, with further accumulations expected this weekend.

Resorts around the Val Gardena circuit (Selva, Canazei and Arabba) joined Madonna di Campiglio and Cortina and fired-up some lifts. Throughout the summer, work to replace and upgrade lifts has resulted in a handful of new developments awaiting their first customers. Of particular interest are the much-needed improvements at the Milky Way resorts of Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere and Bardonecchia in preparation for February’s Olympic events. These ski areas are currently reporting much better snow conditions than at the same time last year - a promising start.

Other resorts now open include Livigno, Pila and La Thuile.
