More fast lifts for Saalbach-Hinterglemm

9th June 2009, by Chris Gill

Saalbach-Hinterglemm’s ski area already boasts an impressive lift system, but is investing again for the coming winter - three swanky new chairs, one of which will make it much easier for novices to access part of a gentle blue run.

A six-pack, and eight-pack and a quad are due to be installed for next winter - one above each village, and another for Leogang over the hill and sharing the same ski area.

The six-pack, complete with fancy orange hoods and heated seats, seems rather high tech for the short lift it replaces - the Turm draglift above Saalbach - and will serve mainly the lower section of a blue run from Kohlmaiskopf. But it should be much more appealing for novices than a dodgy draglift.

Another fast chair (an eight-pack) is in line to take over from the Hasanauer quad above Hinterglemm, on Reiterkogel. This lift carries on from above the gondola and has been a source of queues in the past, but with the new lift doubling capacity that should relieve the problem.

Finally - not wanting to be left out, but already boasting almost all its lifts as high-speed chairs and gondolas, is little Leogang. This small, quiet resort in the next valley is linked by a series of lifts into the Saalbach ski area, but also enjoys its own quieter slopes above the village. For next winter, a fast quad will replace one of the remaining draglifts, which serves runs just below the gondola mid-station. Last season the resort installed an eight-pack.
