New hotel concept launched in Schladming

A new hotel brand, offering ‘lifestyle’ accommodation at a lower cost will debut in Schladming next winter.

The TUI hotels and resorts group is developing a new hotel chain for the leisure sector, based on the business industry but aimed at the budget to mid-range market - or 3-star equivalent.

The Aqi brand will open its first hotel in Schladming for 2008/09. The name ‘Aqi’ derives from the Spanish equivalent, meaning ‘here, in this place’ and the concept behind the new accommodation is to offer contemporary, functional, yet basic designs at good value prices. It should also appeal to anyone looking for a short-break option.

The Schladming hotel is being built at the Planai base station and will have 107 rooms, a restaurant, bar and roof terrace among its facilities. It will concentrate on attracting couples and single travellers, keen on sporting holidays.

Rooms can be booked directly, or through the tour operator Thomson holidays (part of the TUI group). A week’s B&B starts at 343 euros (excluding flights or other travel arrangements) and short stays are available from 49 euros per night. If all goes to plan, the hotel Aqi Schladming should be welcoming guests from December 2008.
