Are you ready to party Austrian style.

It has just been announced that chart-topper Rihanna will perform at Ischgl’s famous season opening concert in December.

The Barbados-born star has recently scooped awards for her hit single ‘Umbrella’, which topped the UK charts for 10 weeks. Her latest record Shut up and Drive is also expected to warm-up the crowds for another winter season on the area’s 210km/130 miles pistes.

Rihanna will perform in Ischgl’s village centre on 1 December. The town has previously welcomed an impressive list of superstars, such as Elton John and Lionel Richie, to its legendary open-air party. The concert officially launches the new winter season, although the lifts actually open on 30 November.

Every winter, Ischgl hosts three big name gigs in its Top of the Mountain series: last season featured The Pussycat Dolls, Scissor Sisters and Melanie C.

New on the mountain this year will be the upgraded Fimbabahn gondola, with its swanky eight-seat cabins and heated seats. The new lift will transport 2,800 skiers and boarders an hour up from the village to Idalp.
