Revelstoke to host freeskiing event

1st August 2009, by Chris Gill

Canada’s newest resort, Revelstoke will become the latest venue for the Freeskiing World Tour championships.

The resort, which has developed significantly during the past couple of seasons, has signed up to a three-year commitment to host the Canadian part of the International event - the first of which takes place from 6 to10 January 2010.

The Canadian Freeskiing Championships will take place on some of Revelstoke’s most challenging terrain: of high alpine bowls, chutes, cliffs and gladed features for which the area is revered - along with its 500 acres or so of heli- and cat-skiing. The event is the first of its kind for the resort and is being sponsored by the Revelstoke Accommodation Association (RAA).

The Freeskiing World Tour is the largest and longest running ‘big mountain’ freeskiing tour of its kind, with a top $100,000 prize money at stake.  The 2009/10 series starts in Chile in September.
