Saas Fee opens new restaurant

A new mountain restaurant opened in Saas Fee last month to mark the start of the 2005/06 winter season.

The ‘Meeting Point Morenia’ is the first of several projects to be completed and opened in the Saastal this winter. This modern dining spot can accommodate 1,000 guests and features a large self-service area (a Swiss first). Situated at 2500m, by the mid-station on the Alpin Express, its inaugural day at the end of October was due to coincide with the opening of the Morenia piste down from the glacier. Sadly, unfavourable conditions meant skiers and boarders were restricted to the upper glacier slopes.

Above Morenia, the Felskinn restaurant has undergone some refurbishment and the Egginerjoch lift extended in preparation for the expansion of the slopes in 2006/07.When the snows arrive, the newly upgraded Spielboden to Langfluh chairlift will whisk guests to the heart of the upper runs.

Across the valley Saas Grund offers 35km piste. The new Hohsaas restaurant will open in December. Perched high among the snowfields at 3200m, it affords spectacular views across to Saas Fee and eighteen of the Alps’ 4000m peaks. The restaurant is reached via the newly refurbished Kreuzboden - Hohsaas gondola. Another chairlift, Sandiger Boden, will also open at Kreuzboden, serving the mostly intermediate runs there.
