French downhill skier Brice Roger was among six people injured when a ski lift derailed in Tignes yesterday.

State investigators were assessing the scene of the accident this morning, Sunday 20 October, 24 hours after the cable came off the Rosolin T-bar on the Grande Motte glacier.

Six people were injured in the accident, but only one skier — a 15-year-old girl — was helicoptered to hospital. She has now been released.

Mr Roger told French media he was “crushed like a pancake” when the cable came off the ski lift, but added that he was more frightened by the incident than hurt.

There have been reports that a British ski instructor Dave Morris was also among the injured.

This is the second major incident at Tignes in the past week that the Grand Motte has been open for the winter.

Last weekend a huge avalanche slid down the piste, set off by four skiers venturing off-piste. According to local media, 70 search and rescue personnel with avalanche dogs were involved in the aftermath to ensure no skiers had been buried.

There were no casualties.
