Status Quo to rock Ischgl

25th January 2006, by Chris Gill

Status Quo will be rocking all over the snow at Ischgl’s traditional end-of-season Top of the Mountain concerts.

Austria’s party capital has announced that the jean-clad rock stars will perform at a specially constructed arena up high in the ski area. The concert will take place on Sunday 23 April, at Alp Trida (2488m), shared with Swiss resort, Samnaun. It will be the first of two events to round off Ischgl’s 2005/06 season. R&B solo star Pink is reported to be headlining the second concert at Idalp on Sunday 30 April.  Previous performers have included Diana Ross, Sting, Elton John and Peter Gabriel. The concerts are free - all you need is your lift ticket to get up there.

Ischgl, in the Paznaun region of the Austrian Tirol region, normally marks its ski season with high profile concerts. This winter was launched at the end of November by Lionel Richie, who performed an open-air evening gig to 12,000 fans in the village square.

As well as its pop profile, the resort offers 210km slopes linked to duty-free Samnaun in Switzerland, one of Europe’s best lift systems, and a vibrant après-ski scene.
