Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, shuts the lifts for the season on Sunday 6 June – after another eight-month winter. And from the photos it looks like there is plenty of snow left on the mountain.

The US resort has kept top-to-bottom slopes open right to the end, with eight trails and two lifts running. And freestyle fans still have a variety of jumps and rails available in the terrain park.

Eager riders have been enjoying quiet, summer snow conditions for the past few days. There’ll be a few more folk around for the annual pond-skiing party. You need every ounce of speed and balance to attempt to ski or board across a slushy, ice-cold lake though - but it’s all a lark for those brave enough to have a go. Lake Reveal is a natural lake that forms at mid-mountain every spring.

And the final day of the season will also be the last time anyone rides the Exhibition lift, which is being replaced with a swanky new quad for next winter.

So, will Arapahoe Basin be the first US resort to open for 2010/11? Or will it be Loveland …
