Aldi launches Pro Ski range

Aldi claims its Pro Ski jacket is comparable to Arcteryx gear
Supermarket chain Aldi is launching a second round of skiwear in January, with a Pro Ski range aimed at skiers who are looking for a more premium product.
Aldi’s ski range was released in store on 26 November, but from 11 January the new Pro Ski range will be available exclusively online from aldi.co.uk — and the supermarket claims the range will help skiers save hundreds against similar products from premium brands such as Arcteryx.
The Aldi Ski Pro range includes jackets, salopettes, mid-layers and snowboots, and the supermarket is particularly proud of its hard-shell, three-layered jacket Pro Ski Jacket (see the men’s version, above), completely windproof, waterproof and featuring an adjustable storm hood and costing just £34.99. Aldi claims it is comparable to the Arcteryx Proton LT Inner Jacket and Rush Jacket, providing a saving of £620.
Having got our mitts on a sample of the Aldi Ski Pro Jacket, and comparing it to our own Arcteryx kit, while it might do a similar type of job, it doesn’t have quite the finesse — and what Arcteryx thinks about the laime, we’re not quite sure. Would it really stand up to a technical job like ski touring? Again, we’re not sure, but it provides a damned good-value option for skiers on a budget. With a breathable shell and waterproof/windproof qualities, it’s also a good option for wearing for lots of other activities all year round.
“This year we’ve upped the ante for our customers, by helping them enjoy skiing for less, with a selection of premium ski pieces at a fraction of the cost of big name brands,” says a spokesman from Aldi.
Aldi’s Pro Ski range, on sale 11 January, offers customers Merino Sports Midlayers (£29.99), sturdy Winter Boots (£14.99) and weatherproof Ski Pro Salopettes (£29.99) – all absolute bargains for ski enthusiasts. Plus, capture tricks and adventures alike with the Action Camcorder (£29.99).
