Be careful where you buy your Grand Domaine 6-day pass if you want to ski Les 2 Alpes

A split between the lift and piste management companies in Alpe d’Huez and Oz-Vaujany this season has left some WTSS readers short-changed on their lift passes.

A six-day Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine has traditionally included a free day of skiing in Les Deux-Alpes, among other resorts in the Grande Galaxie, but this year because of the split the option is not available on lift passes bought in Vaujany from the new Oz-Vaujany lift company SPL. If the passes are bought in Alpe d’Huez from its lift company SATA, the free day skiing exchange is still available.

WTSS reader John Rockliff was staying in Vaujany last week, and wrote to inform us of the issue.

He said: “We discovered that the free days in other resorts were not covered before we went to Les Deux-Alpes for a day, but we saw two people in the Vaujany ticket office filling in forms to try to reclaim the 45 euros that a one day pass in Les Deux-Alpes had cost them. But the ticket office were not necessarily promising them a refund.”

We contacted SDL, the Oz-Vaujany lift and piste management company, for clarification on the situation.

Spokesman Annelies Korsuize told us that visitor and skiers are not affected by the “divorce” between the communities of Vaujany and Oz and SATA, but confirmed that to gain a free days’ skiing in Les Deux-Alpes, skiers have to buy their lift passes from SATA in Alpe d’Huez.

“In the run up to the season we clearly did not have the time to ensure that the reciprocal arrangements with other resorts were in place,” she explained.

“Instead of the access to another resort, we gave priority to a leisure access with the ski pass including the swimming pool and the ice-rink in Vaujany and the ice-rink in Oz.”

She warns readers that if skiers buy their lift passes from SATA in Alpe d’Huez they will not access to the swimming pool and ice-rink in Vaujany and the ice-rink in Oz.

“Next year, the SPL Oz-Vaujany should join the association Grande Galaxie and offer the exchanges with the others resorts of the region, together with the advantages already included this year,” she confirmed.
