There are plans for a bit of a knees-up in the Monterosa region next month to inaugurate the area’s new funicular lift.

Champoluc is set to host an afternoon of games, music and traditional entertainment around the lift’s base station at Frachey. The action starts at 3pm on Friday 5 March, so if you’re in the area you could join in for a bit après-ski family fun.

Described as ‘the most amusing lift of the resort’ the funicular has become quite an attraction for the ski area, and a big investment to replace the old chairlift up from the valley towards Gressoney.

The funicular can carry 110 passengers and runs between Frachey and Alpe-Ciarcerio. It is one of two smart new lifts installed for winter 2009/10, the other being the replacement Punta Indren cable car above Alagna.

Champoluc sits at one end of the Monterosa ski area, the Aosta region’s pretty three valleys (also including Alagna and Gressoney). We review them all separately on the site too.
