Aspen town from Ajax Mountain this February: the ski resort will open again on Monday

It’s not just the Alps having extra snow — Aspen in Colorado has announced this week that it will be open for skiing on Memorial Day, Monday 30 May.

Around 120 acres of skiing at the top of Aspen Mountain, known to locals as Ajax, will be open from 9am to 2pm. Season passes will be valid on the Silver Queen Gondola from the centre of Aspen town, or day tickets available at $39 (around £27).

Aspen Mountain last opened for Memorial Day in 2014, and Aspen Ski Company, which controls the lifts, kept Aspen Highlands open this season for two extra weekends — 23/24 April and 30 April/1 May.

Meanwhile, the ski season is still going strong in Arapahoe Basin, closer to Denver. A-Basin last weekend hosted “Colorado’s Largest Swimwear Parade on Skis” and while the area has been basking in sunshine all week, it reports a possibility of more snow over the coming weekend.
