The hugely successful HAT (Henry’s Avalanche Talks) series is back in the UK this October, on tour of the country’s indoor snow centres.

The talks are well worth getting along to if you can, and a valuable introduction to the dangers of avalanches and how to stay safe on the mountain. Subjects covered include how to prepare, what to carry for off-piste adventures, managing the risks and when and where to go – since 90% of avalanches are skier-triggered.

In the ‘Ride Hard Ride Safe’ talk, HAT looks at how avalanches are triggered and helps skiers and boarders to understand how and why they happen; and how to analyse a slope that may seem perfectly safe to cross.

The Autumn 2011 tour is heading for six UK venues (but eight talks in total), as listed below. Tickets cost £8.
