BA strikes announced

15th March 2010, by Chris Gill

Members of the British Airways cabin crew have voted to strike on two weekends in March: 20-22 and 27-30.

As promised, there will be no strikes over the Easter period, but should no agreement have been reached by 14 April there may be further action then.

Over 12,000 cabin crew members are expected to take part in the industrial action, which will affect more than half a million BA passengers.

The strike was first proposed last November in response to a pay freeze and other cutbacks. It almost resulted in disruption earlier this winter season, but was postponed at the last minute.

Unfortunately the union’s secretary stated: ‘Regrettably, management turned down a remarkable offer from the union which would have given the company everything it said it wanted while also meeting our members’ concerns.’

If this strike does go ahead, passengers can expect some but not all flights to be cancelled on those dates.
