The world’s leading snowboarders are in action in Saas Fee this week for the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup – at least they are trying to be in between the recent snowfall.
The main events started Thursday 5 November, with over 130 riders from 26 nations taking part. Many of these champs are getting in their qualifying rounds in preparation for the big Olympic showdown in Whistler next February. And Saas Fee’s glacier park is a good place to start. The pipes have been prepared, though the resort has been receiving heavy snowfall during the past 24-hours.
The big names
Hoping to be jumping on the podium this year will be 2008 winner Janne Korpi and teammate Antti Autti from Finland and riders Sergio Berger and Louri Podladtchikov from Switzerland, among others. And we hear, there will be a representative from the Bahamas!
Swiss party
Saas Fee is pretty good at kicking up a decent party, and there is something on in town most nights. The two key venues are the Popcorn bar and the Livingroom, but film nights and DJ’s are also on the invitation.
