Prices are down in three-quarters of ski resorts this season, according to new research — with cheapest prices to be found in Bansko in Bulgaria.

This year’s Ski Resort Report, released this morning by Post Office Travel Money shows that prices have fallen substantially in three-quarters of the 27 resorts surveyed on its behalf by Crystal Ski.

Thanks to the strong pound, the cost of ski equipment, lift passes, ski school, meals and drinks (£264), is down almost 12% this season compared to last in Slovenia’s Kranjska Gora, now second-placed next to Bansko (at £295 for the bundle).

There has been an 11% fall in prices in Italian resort of Livigno, now third-cheapest ski destination with a bundle costing £286 compared to fourth-placed Ellmau in Austria, with £306. Sestriere in Italy is fifth.

In France, Morzine comes in sixth place, with ski equipment, lift passes, ski school, meals and drinks costing an average £333. The full list of resorts is below.

While the reduction in costs is due to the current exchange rate between the pound and the euro, Serre Chevalier and Les Deux-Alpes in France and Kitzbuhel in Austria have cut prices locally, resulting in a drop of between 13.5% and 15.2% year on year.

Top of the list for best value resorts in North America was Tremblant, Canada (£526), followed by Banff and Whistler, then Winter Park, Breckenridge and in fifth place, Vail (£751.88).

The most expensive place to ski in Europe is Zermatt, with ski equipment, lift passes, ski school, meals and drinks costing an average £698.50.
