Bite to eat, Zermatt style

Zermatt continues to develop its gastronomy attractions on-mountain, with the news that two of its huts in the Rothorn sector are getting a makeover for the coming season.

Unlike the cute and characterful huts at Findeln below it, the 1970’s concrete affair on Blauherd needed some attention. Word is, that it is being downsized from a self-service restaurant to a modern lounge bar offering a relaxed setting; but a smaller, select menu. It will hold 60 people indoors, and 200 on the terrace. The hut is at the top of two main lifts, so you may find its crowds head to Sunnegga for a wider choice. They are revamping that restaurant too, though.

Lower down on Rothorn, at Sunnegga, the large table-service restaurant is also being remodelled: it is becoming a self-service buffet, which perhaps won’t please those visitors who prefer to be waited on. But given its size, serving over 1200 meals daily apparently, it is expected to improve waiting times and capacity.

Both redevelopments are due to be finished in time for December’s season opening day.
