British snowboarder Jamie Barrow has set the world’s first indoor snowboard speed record.

Jamie reached a speed of 69.4kmph on the 520m indoor slopes at SnowWorld in Landgraaf, Holland, on Saturday, 7 July. In April, the 21-year-old from Bath set the outdoor British speed snowboarding record in Verbier — recording 151.7kmph.

“The indoor conditions are much more restrictive than outdoor slopes, hence the slower record time than the one I reached outside in April,” explained Jamie, who is a former British Junior Snowboard Champion and currently a member of the British Snowboardcross team.

“Given the constraints of the indoor slope and the balance I had to set between speed and safety I am thrilled with the time I achieved,” he said, adding:  “I hope that this record being in place will encourage more snowboarders across the globe to challenge my time and test their own sporting limits.”

Jamie is an athlete mentor for Sky Sports Living for Sport, delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, and regularly visits secondary schools across the South West to encourage students to reach their full sporting potential.
