Britain’s top ski racers have secured essential funding at last, in the form of a sponsorship deal.

BBC Sport reported that the unnamed sponsor would back the newly formed British Ski and Snowboard team, which currently includes 11 of our best athletes.

This is promising news for the squad, following a difficult season in which SnowsportGB went into administration. The team is estimated to need over £1.5m per year in funding.

As well as securing funding for the next two years, the deal means that some of Britain’s junior racers will be able to benefit too. It will enable the teams to continue their intensive training programmes, which continue throughout the summer months.

Chief executive for the team, Dave Edwards said: “This is an exciting group of athletes and we will do everything we can to ensure they deliver great results in international competition. It’s great to put the coaches on a firm footing.’

Britain’s Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott will continue her career as part of the group, along with Ed Drake and Noel Baxter.
