It’s time for another round of rocking the Alps, BRITS style – and the action kicks off in Laax, Switzerland from Monday 23 March to Saturday 27 March.

The BRITS is a week of action both on and off the slopes, and not all centred on the terrain parks. There are downhill activities, parties and demos during the event too, including the new Garmin Challenge.

The Garmin Downhill Challenge, named after its organisers – the satellite navigation company – offers visitors the chance to test the products with a speed run. Times will be stored on the Leader Board, with the fastest winning a trip to the 2011 event. Devices can be borrowed from the stand in the Café No Name at Crap Sogn Gion.

If the new ski and snowboard cross events kept you hooked to the TV during the Vancouver Olympics, it might be worth tuning in to the Trespass Snowboardcross and Skiercross finals taking place that week too. The snowboarding is on Tuesday, with the skiers battling it out on Thursday.

Also, there are Big Air, Halfpipe and Freestyle events each day culminating the Red Bull Home Run – a massive free-for-all race down the mountain that clocks up 1200 metres of vertical. The fastest down the run to the valley usually finish in four minutes or thereabouts.

If you are skiing Laax-Flims during BRITS week, expect it to be a bit busier around the Crap Sogn Gion lifts and runs – though most events should only affect the immediate area, with the rest of the 210km of pistes offering plenty of space to enjoy the slopes.
