If you think your off-piste skills are a little rusty after a winter without skiing, or you fancy going ski touring for the first time this season, Henry’s Avalanche Talk (HAT) is returning to the UK this autumn.

The tour, in association with ORTOVOX and Ellis Brigham, includes live events, online webinars, practical avalanche search-and-rescue training and a new weekend academy course in Herefordshire. During the various events around England and Scotland, skiers and snowboarders can learn about HAT philosophy and get practical experience of avalanche rescue techniques.

HAT founder Henry Schniewind, who has been teaching avalanche skills, will also appear at the Kendal Mountain Festival.

The ever-popular tour was cancelled last year due to Covid 19, but during the pandemic there has been a surge of interest in ski touring — with more people than ever predicted to head off the beaten track this winter.

The HAT tour and avalanche training begins in London on 7 November, ending on 2 January 2022 at Sandbanks in Dorset. The Academy Weekend over Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 November in Ledbury, Herefordshire (costing £295pp, not including travel and accommodation). Online webinars run over similar dates.
