Fancy buying your very own ski resort? Well if you have €1 (about 81p) you can do just that.

The Petzenbahnen ski resort in the Austrian region of Carinthia went on sale at the beginning of this month for just €1. The local council first bought the resort for millions of pounds, and now its tourism holding company KHT is selling Petzenbahnen for “symbolic amount” in the hope of attracting an investor to help develop the region.

The ski resort has 26 kilometres of red pistes and 3k of blacks. There is also a snowboard park, cross-country skiing area and a skating rink — as well as one restaurant, four ski huts, a nursery slope and lift for children and ski and snowboard hire shop.

There are subsidies of around €1.77million (£1.4m) available for re-development, if you’re still thinking buying a ski resort is attractive.

Carinthian governor Peter Kaiser (SPOe) said that any other option, such as closing Petzenbahnen, would end up costing the council five times as much simply selling it for a symbolic amount.

He said the ski resort was a valuable part of the local economy and had to be saved to protect jobs and tourism in the area.
