There are many fantastic music festivals in the Alps, but today CairnGorm Mountain in Scotland has announced the first snowsports festival to take place in a British ski resort.

“Groove Cairngorm” will run over 11/12 March, the same weekend as the Scottish Freestyle Championships and will be hosted in conjunction with the town of Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands.

The après-ski line-up after each day of mountain entertainment includes world-class DJs Grandmaster Flash, Hot Chip and The Cuban Brothers as well as live music from the likes of Spring Break and The Elephant Sessions. More acts, who will perform on the slopes, at the park and in The Ptarmigan — the highest restaurant in the UK — will be released over the next few months.

The festival is being launched by the team behind Groove Loch Ness, and following the huge success of the inaugural event at Loch Ness this summer.

“We just couldn’t wait a whole year for another party so we’re bringing snowsports back to their spiritual home! ” said Sam Barker, one of the Groove founders.
“CairnGorm Mountain has been given a facelift since it was taken over by Natural Retreats in 2014. The endless work they have been doing in the summer months has a huge impact on the conditions in winter, which stay better for longer. We want to celebrate that and give snow riders the opportunity to enjoy a snowsports festival weekend on home snow, that doesn’t break the bank.”

Tickets start from £65 and are on sale now at skiddle.com. Shuttle buses will operate between Inverness and Aviemore.
