Carezza in the Italian Dolomites has unveiled the world’s third cable car with an open-air viewing platform.
Carezza in the South Tyrol is a small ski area and resort off Val di Fassa, linking Passo Costalunga and Nova Levante.
The 3.8km-long König Laurin cable car, which opened on 10 February, carries 60 passengers through summer and winter from the Tires Valley to the Rose Garden. The climb of 644 meter takes just seven minutes, the journey from St Zypian/San Cipriano to the Fromm Alm in Carezza Dolomites ski area to the Rose Garden hiking area.
The upper balcony above the cable car will offer stunning views of the Catinaccio.
Local architect Werner Scholl designed the underground lift stations to blend seamlessly with the environment, with only the entrances and exits still visible. The journey can be done on foot, with bikes and on skis.
There are also cable cars with viewing platforms on the Grande Mott glacier in Tignes (France) and on the Dachstein glacier in Austria.
