Celebrate Valentine’s Day on skis

Ski resorts around the globe are holding special events for Valentine's Day
Are you going to be skiing on Friday? In case it hadn’t escaped your notice, Friday is Valentine’s Day and ski resorts around the globe are getting into the romantic spirit — starting with Courmayeur, which has the best boast of all, having St Valentine as its patron saint.
The whole resort will be joining in the celebrations, with the resort centre filled with heart-shaped balloons, music and traditional dancing, with hot chocolate and mulled wine. In Bormio, couples can go night skiing at a 50 per cent reduction — chilly!
In France, Les Deux-Alpes is hosting a full moon party with dinner and dancing at Restaurant les Glaciers (3200m) then skiing by the light of the moon back down to resort. Les Gets is offering a romantic dining experience in the Mont Chéry bubble on Valentine’s evening where the cabins will be decorated and a different course will be served each time you pass through the lift station. There will be ice sculpting in Val Thorens and the entire resort of La Rosière will be decorated for La Fête des Amoureux where visitors will be given roses.
In Switzerland, skiers in Leysin can go to a tobogganing park event with a glass of champagne around a “lovers’ fire”, a toboggan ride, a lovers’ ceremony in the ice chapel followed by champagne fondue in an igloo. Meanwhile in Laax, the Arena Bar is holding an “Oyster Hour” between 5pm and 8pm, with oysters, smoked salmon and “good champagne”. Move on later to the Arena Club for the third annual Gummilove nailing tournament to the beats of DJ Lindar, with 100% of the entrance fees are getting donated to savemylove.net. Zermatt is hosting a “Kitchen Around” where couples eat a three-course dinner in three different restaurants — but in the kitchen, after watching the chef cook.
Over in Canada, Big White in British Columbia is holding a whole host of events from speed-dating to champagne sleigh rides to romantic gondola rides with bubbles. Mount Norquay in Banff is holding a chairlift speed-dating event “Lifts of Love”, while Banff itself is organising a torchlit descent with a smorgasbord dinner for lovers at the Sitzmark Lounge.
In the United States, Loveland in Colorado is holding the 23rd annual Valentine’s Day “Mountaintop Matrimony ceremony” — basically a mass marriage and reception where new couples are joined in matrimony and married couples renew their vows at The Ptarmigan Roost Cabin,
There’s a torchlit parade in Steamboat, while Bromley, a little resort in Vermont, is offering two-for-one lift tickets and Telluride is offering a range of “sweetheart deals” alongside chocolate and vodka tastings and champagne and strawberry restaurant specials.
These are just a few! If you know of any others, let us know!
