A Christmas ski holiday in Serre Chevalier is being auctioned in aid of charity.

Chez Serre Chevalier is offering a week’s self-catered stay (from 22 to 26 December) for up to eight people in the chalet apartment Tournante. The holiday is being auctioned in aid of LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice.

Duncan Newbury, who set up Chez Serre Chevalier last season with Alison Dickie, said the charity LOROS cared for his cousin Jackie when she was ill with terminal cancer.

“Jackie was a great inspiration to us in setting up the business and moving to the mountains,” he said. “She was 34 when she died, and had only done a bit of skiing, and was at an age when a lot of people are really just starting to get into skiing.”

Serre Chevalier is made up of a string of 13 villages set along a valley in the Hautes Alpes region of southern France. The three main villages are Le Monêtier (or Serre-Che 1500), Villeneuve (1400) and Chantemerle (1350).

Chalet Tournante is set over the top two floors of a traditional village building in the picturesque hamlet of Bez, adjoining Villeneuve village. It is a 300m walk from the nearest lift or you can take the free village shuttle bus.

The chalet features a large double/twin bedroom with ensuite shower room, two good-sized double rooms and one small double bedroom, with separate bathroom and WC. There is a dining area with large wooden table, plus lounge area with three sofas and TV.

While lift passes, equipment hire and transfers are extra, Chez Serre Chevalier is happy to assist the auction winners with arrangements. Flights are also extra.

The auction is live on e-bay until 10pm on the closing day of the London Ski & Snowboard Show, Sunday 4 November. At the time of posting (4:30pm Monday 29 October) the current bid was £300. The week’s stay would normally cost £1,050.
