The City Ski Championships is moving to Verbier this season — for the 17th year of the event.

At a time when many companies are fleeing Switzerland because of rising prices, the event’s organiser, Momentum, says it is the “perfect time to maximise involvement and loyalty” to the country.

Ski racing at the City Ski Championships combine with the Financial Times Alpine Forum and are used as a massive corporate hospitality, networking and entertaining event for Europe’s business and financial community.

Previously held in Courmayeur, Italy, and for the past four years in Crans-Montana, the championships will be held in Verbier from 4 to 7 February 2016. The Financial Times Alpine Forum and Comedy Club night will be held at the W Hotel, with the prize giving gala dinner on the mountain at Mouton Noir on Saturday with a top live band. Full details of the weekend will be announced later this autumn.

“Many of our return guests requested a change in location, to keep the event fresh and add novelty,” explains Momentum spokesman Jessica Gorman.
“For the 17th year of the event, we wanted to continue to develop and update the offering, so what better location than Verbier for this purpose, with its notoriety, great snow and links with Valais. We have managed to secure hotels, venues and suppliers to help us keep to similar prices for packages as in Crans Montana, which is no mean feat with the current economic climate.

“We feel it is the perfect time to maximise involvement and loyalty to Switzerland whilst others are fleeing and have found a reward in this from our collaborators in Verbier.”

Past celebrity guest attendees at the event include Marcus Brigstocke, Amy Williams, Damon Hill, Colin Jackson, Marcus Wareing, Sir Steven Redgrave and Heston Blumenthal

This season’s event has also been opened up to Swiss guests and Internationals taking it to the next level.
