Two ski areas in Colorado have opened for business. Loveland and Arapahoe Basin, two resorts that pride themselves on long seasons, opened last Thursday.

Thanks to more than a foot of natural snowfall early last week and some consistent snowmaking efforts, A-Basin finally opened on at 9am on 29 October. By 7am, there were six skiers and snowboarders queuing for first ride on the Black Mountain Express lift that cranked into action two hours later.

Temperatures had been too warm for A-Basin to make any snow earlier in October, but the intermediate High Noon trail is now open, along with the early-season terrain park.

Loveland in Colorado also opened on 29 October, with fantastic sunny conditions.

In Europe, glacier skiing is going strong in Les 2 Alpes, Kitzbühel and Cervinia, to name a few — with resorts set to open full time at the end of this month.
