The ski resort of Copper Mountain in Colorado will this winter open a new lift to offer access to Tucker Mountain, previously only accessible by snowcat or by hiking. The three-person Three Bears chairlift, which will have a ski patrol warming hut at the summit, is part of a $100million investment programme that includes new lifts, restaurants and facilities.

The investment, by Copper’s parent company POWDR Adventure Lifestyle Co, has already funded the replacement of the American Eagle four-man chair with a six-person chair and eight-person gondola cabins, which last winter increased lift capacity by more than 40 per cent. The four-person American Flyer chairlift, also in Center Village (like the American Eagle), has also been replaced, with a six-man high-speed chair with protective bubble for bad-weather days.

Among the new dining options is a brand new lodge that will open this winter at the top of the Kokomo Express, which opened last winter. The hut, called Koko’s, is a 2,500sqft building with a large outdoor deck and seating for 200. It will be serving what Copper Mountain describes as “grab-and-go comfort food” to hungry skiers and snowboarders. Next season, a new mid-mountain lodge with full-service restaurant and bar will replace the existing Solitude Station at the top of the American Eagle lift.
