Crystal adds Swedish ski resorts

Crystal Ski Holidays has added the Swedish resorts Åre and Vemdalen to its programme
Crystal Ski Holidays has added the resorts of Åre and Vemdalen in Sweden to its 2017/18 programme, further cementing their popularity with UK skiers.
Earlier this month SkiStar, the company that operates both Åre and Vemdalen, announced there has been a substantial increase in skiers from the UK following the launch of an EasyJet flight from London Gatwick to Åre/Östersund this winter.
Overall, there has been an increase of 35 per cent in British ski tourism — and now that Crystal is adding the resorts into its programme that is only set to increase.
Åre is the largest ski area in Sweden, with 100km of pistes, 42 lifts and 89 runs while Vemdalen has a total of 35 ski lifts and 51 runs over three separate areas that are connected by bus. Both are relatively low in altitude compared to the Alps, but Sweden’s proximity to the Arctic Circle means they’re usually snowsure from December to May.
“This new partnership with Crystal Ski Holidays is very interesting for us. I think we can provide a ski product that British skiers will love to experience. The Nordic region has so much to offer and the skiing here suits the British taste,” said Niclas Sjögren Berg, SkiStar’s ski resort manager for Åre. “It’s great to see the collaboration with easyJet bearing fruit, alongside a general increase in interest for skiing holidays in the Nordic region coming from the UK.”

Crystal’s purchasing manager Michael Brabin added: “Åre, Sweden’s biggest ski area and Vemdalen are a perfect addition to our already large choice of resorts, and will satisfy those skiers who like to experience a different environment and culture than the Alps. Everyone speaks a good level of English, food is delightful and resorts are extremely family friendly.
“Flights are direct from Gatwick to Östersund and transfers are just over an hour.”
Crystal will offer a choice of one five-star and two four-star hotels plus two four-star and one three-star apartment options in Åre, and in Vemdalen one four-star and one three-star hotel as well as some four-star apartments two minutes’ walk from the lifts.
Holidays to Åre and Vemdalen are on sale now, and prices for a week’s stay start from £339 per person at the four-star Vargen Apartments in Åre, including EasyJet flights and transfers, departing 14 January and based on five sharing.
