Crystal offers Austrian ski resort Serfaus

Crystal Ski Holidays has added the Austrian resort of Serfaus to its winter programme
Crystal Ski Holidays has added the Austrian resort of Serfaus to its 2018-19 winter programme, much to the delight of Where to Ski and Snowboard editors Chris Gill and Dave Watts.
Serfaus, on the Austrian Tirol, is situated at 1600m with a top height of more than 2800m over its ski area, which it shares with nearby Fiss and Ladis. There are some 198km of pistes in total, spread over a series of sunny, open bowls — and including Austria’s largest family ski area.
Editors Gill and Watts visited Serfaus in January 2017 and were so delighted with the linked ski areas and virtually traffic-free village that they wrote this blog here and included the ski resort in Where to Ski in Austria, published last year.
Editor Watts said today: “I’m delighted that Crystal has introduced Serfaus into its programme. It is the first major UK tour operator to feature the resort and the ski area deserves to be much better known on the British market.”
Read Where to Ski and Snowboard’s independent review of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis here.
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is situated on the ‘other side’ of the mountains of Ischgl and Samnaun. The village of Serfaus itself is unique in Austria because it has an underground railway, the ‘Dorfbahn’, which floats on air, has no track, no platforms and no vibration. It has four stops from the village car park to the gondola with stops for hotel guests and its tired children. Day visitors are directed to a massive parking area on the edge of the village to take the subway to the gondola, the resort has no through-traffic.
There is plenty to do for everyone both on the slopes and off. Crystal’s Austrian general manager Lindsey Cairns explained: “Don’t miss the giant, eight-person swing or the ‘Fisser Flieger’, a four-person hang glider that flies down a wire at 80km/h. There’s also a zipline that lets you soar 85m above the resort.
“If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, visit the Z1 viewing platform and the Crystal Cube, a huge construction made from mirrored glass with a restaurant inside, or relax in dedicated areas on the slopes, each with hammocks, lounge chairs and incredible views”.
A week’s stay at the 3* Hotel Komperdell costs from £639 per person (two sharing) including half board, flights from London Gatwick to Innsbruck departing 5 January 2019 and transfers.
