Dolomites join the opening of non-glacier Alpine resorts

There are quite a few glacier resorts in the Alps open for business, and lower mountains are now joining in. Austrian resorts are leading the charge, with over half the lifts open in Ischgl and Obergurgl, and now the huge Superski Dolomiti region in north-east Italy joins them.

The Dolomites region is famous for the quantity and quality of its snowmaking, and the recent cold snap has not only enabled large-scale snow production but also delivered up to 25cm of the real thing. As a result, the conical peak of Kronplatz will be largely open from Saturday 26th – 13 lifts serving 33km of pistes should be open tomorrow.

The rest of the region won’t be far behind. Val de Fiemme will have 8 lifts open tomorrow, and all the region’s resorts should be open to some extent next weekend, including the amazing Sella Ronda circuit linking Selva, Corvara, Arabba and Canazei.

Kronplatz is a peak shared by several resort villages. Our favoured base is San Vigilio to the south, but there is probably more accommodation to the north, in and around the town of Brunico.
