Eurostar has opened booking for its ski train service for the coming season, and added a direct service to Lyon offering new rail access to a host of French ski resorts including Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d’Huez.

Eurostar’s Lyon service will run from St Pancras, stopping at Ashford International on Friday and Saturday mornings, departing London 07:19 arriving Lyon 13:00 local time. It begins 19 December, with return journeys also on a Friday and Saturday, departing 17:25 (allowing for a day’s skiing) arriving in London 22:12. Fares start at £89 return.

The high-speed rail service will continue to offer its twice-weekly Bourg-St-Maurice, Moûtiers and Aime La Plagne (the latter outbound only) from London St Pancras and Ashford with an evening departure on Fridays (from 1 January) and Saturday morning departure starting on 19 December, for Courchevel, Chamonix, Val d’Isere, Val Thorens, Meribel, Les Arcs, Tignes and La Plagne. Return fares from £149.

Skiers bound for Geneva, and the Swiss Alps, can depart from London or Ebbsfleet four days a week, changing trains at Lille and with fares from £127 return.

All services run until early April, and fares include a luggage allowance to beat any aircraft — two suitcases, one piece of hand luggage and skis or snowboard at no extra cost.

Tickets are available from eurostar.com or by calling 03432 186 186, at Eurostar stations or from travel agents.
