The London Ski and Snowboard Show opened on Wednesday 20 October, and Where to Ski and Snowboard was there to share with you the gossip and vibe from an energetic day one – rounded off by a show-stopping appearance from The Feeling. Now how cool is that!?

These days the ski show is as much about the cultural entertainment of a resort or region, as well as finding your perfect ticket to the snow. When we arrived at Olympia, there was plenty going on to get us in the groove for winter. Not least, some terrific freestyle demos, mountain talks, culinary displays and live music. And Wednesday’s crowd got an extra special performance ...

Pop band The Feeling played in the World Resorts Bar towards the end of the afternoon. Their appearance was primarily to promote the Little World Festival, taking place in Méribel this season, but they entertained us with a few of their big hits, including ‘I love it when you call’ and ‘Never be lonely’. They were joined by female artist Sophie Ellis Bexter too, performing ‘Murder on the dancefloor’. We bopped away near the front, but visitors also got a good view of the band from the nearby stairs and gallery. A short gig, but clearly a highlight of opening day events, and a fab way to rock out day one.

The 3 Vallées stand is also where you’ll find some top chefs cooking up a culinary storm during the week, with demonstrations and taster sessions. When we dropped by, Mickael Weiss was preparing a savoury delight including beetroot “spaghetti”. You can catch Heston Blumenthal, the 3 star Michelin Chef, in action on Friday when he’ll be judging the cook-off competition.

The show is a lively day out for winter sports’ fans and runs until Sunday 24 October - so there’s still time to get over there and discover all the latest news, gear and bargains for the coming season on the slopes.

We’re bringing you more from day one in our Blog, revealing what the press gets up to on a ‘working’ day there! More pictures, clips and soon-to-follow news items as we step up to winter. Watch this space (and our Facebook page). And if you were one of our lucky ticket winners, why not get in touch and tell us how your day went too?
