First it had a chairlift designed by Porsche, now Laax in Switzerland will open a gondola designed by Pininfarina, the Italian car design company famous for designing Ferraris.

The 10-man gondola replaces the 30-year-old La Siala chairlift in Laax, and features heated seats, powered by energy from solar panels on its base station — built from wood sourced in the Graubünden region.

Continuing the car theme elsewhere in Graubünden, a new gondola designed by Porsche opens in Lenzerheide this winter. The eight-seater replaces the outdated Churwalden-Heidbüel chair, at a cost of CHF14.2million.

The gondola will carry 2,200 skiers an hour, with a travel time of just under five minutes (four minutes and 56 seconds, according to the press material!).
