The Fieberbrunn ski area in Austria will be linked for next season with Saalbach Hinterglemm and Leogang, bringing the Ski Circus area up to 240km and linking the Tyrol and Salzburg areas.

A 10-seater Doppelmayr gondola will go from a bottom station at Reckmoos-Süd in Fieberbrunn, with a middle station at the base of the Hörndlingergraben near the Pulvermacheralm, and then continue up to the Reiterkogel in the centre of the Skicirus. It will be capable of ferrying 2,600 skiers an hour.

A new 3.5 km piste, covered by snowmaking facilities and with 780m of vertical, will run from the Reiterkogel in the area around the Vierstadlalm. The whole project is estimated to cost the Fieberbrunn lift company €20million (£14.5m) and will be completed by December 2015.

Fieberbrunn is a little-known resort to the British ski market, but every year hosts a leg of the Freeride World Tour — this year on 31 January.

Herbert Grander, the mayor of Fieberbrunn, commented: “We can all be proud of this development and can happily look to the future with confidence.”
