Mount Norquay in Banff is hosting “lifts of love” for skiers on Saturday
In case it had escaped your notice, Saturday is Valentine’s Day, and ski resorts around the world are running special events from chairlift speed dating to private gondola rides and even mass weddings. Here’s the WTSS pick of what’s on offer.
Verbier is running a “ski dating” event, where single skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to meet at 9am at Ruinettes, grab an armband and then chat up other armband wearers they see on the slopes and chairlifts throughout the day. Meet ups are organised throughout the day for coffee, snacks, drinks, apres-ski,etc - check at the Ruinettes for the schedule.
It’s currently Singles Week in Brides-les-Bains in the Three Valleys, an event that started with an opening “Brisez la Glace” and includes singles dinners in the resort’s restaurants, mixing single people at the same tables and group skiing during the day — departing each morning from the Olympe gondola.
In Les Gets, €35 will buy you a half-hour romantic gondola ride up the Mont Chéry Cable Railway including canapés and half a bottle of wine — running between 6pm and 8.30pm. To book, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
In Northstar, California, you can get married on the mountain in a group wedding ceremony at the Ski, tost & be Married Valentine’s Day event at 2pm. If you’re already hitched, there’s also the option of renewing your vows.
In Canada, Mount Norquay in Banff is hosting “lifts of love” on Saturday night. Registration starts for the event at 6.30pm, with the first ride up Cascade Chair starting at 7pm. Buy a lift ticket on arrival and receive a necklace that identifies you as either ‘seeking him’ or ‘seeking her’ then head to the lift and get in the corresponding line. The event is followed by an an Après Ski Mixer in The Lone Pine with a few mixer party games and a live DJ.
In Big White, you can hire a private champagne gondola between 5pm and 8pm, decorated with candles and complete with music and chocolate-covered strawberries (email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to book).
If you’re a bit late off the mark, book any ski holiday with Ski Total before 4pm on Saturday 14 Feb and on your holiday you will have a special Valentine’s bottle of wine put in your room before you arrive!
