An investigation is underway to find out how a blaze started last night in the ski resort of Morzine, France. The fire has destroyed three buildings including two restaurants and the chalets and apartments above them in the heart of the town.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 6 August) on the rue Taille de Mas du Plene in the centre of popular ski resort in Haute-Savoie in eastern France.

Some 40 residents were evacuated to the Office du Tourisme after the blaze broke out shortly after 01:00 this morning. It was tackled and eventually brought under control by 43 firefighters but the restaurants L’Etale and Le Colibri have been completely gutted. Firemen are still at work this afternoon putting out the burning embers.

This is not the first time a fire has broken out in the ski resort. In October 2016, 34 people were evacuated when a fire started in the chimney of the Ferme de la Fruitiere restaurant in Morzine.
