Mt Norquay - storm delivers an early snow surprise

Feast your eyes on this tantalising taste of winter … scenes from Canada’s Banff and Jasper resorts, as they enjoy a first blast of autumn snowfall.

Over 20cm of snowfall blanketed Banff-Lake Louise to start the week, while Jasper’s Marmot Basin also woke up to a good covering across the mountain. There’s just over a month to go until the scheduled opening days arrive: Lake Louise on 5 November and Sunshine Village on 11 November. But Mount Norquay, Banff’s third ski area, is hoping to beat both of those with a quick preview weekend on Halloween – spooky offerings n’ all lined up to celebrate.

Dedication to first turns, eh …

Highlights for the resorts this winter include Sunshine’s new Strawberry Express Quad and Creekside restaurant, and new freestyle features in Lake Louise. Oh, and Mt Norquay turns 85 this season – that’s a good innings for a ski resort.

Anyway, enjoy the pics …. And you can check out Marmot Basin’s on our Snow page, where we’ll be keeping you updated with snippets from the first flakes of winter, as well as the autumn glacier news.
