Flights to Plovdiv start soon

Pamporovo easier to reach
Skiers and boarders visiting Bulgaria now have a wider choice of flights, with the launch of a new Stansted to Plovdiv route for 2010/11.
During the summer, Ryanair announced plans to operate twice-weekly flights to Plovdiv for the coming ski season. These will go ahead from December and run on on Saturdays and Tuesdays and be most useful for reaching Pamporovo; but also an alternative gateway for Bansko. The airport is about an hour and a half transfer journey to Pamporovo. Bansko takes about 2.5 hours, about the same as from Sofia airport.
Prices are variable depending on Ryanair’s numerous ‘deals’ and booking requirements, but we checked out a return fare on 11 December: £107 plus baggage costs.
Pamporovo is best suited to novices, but has a handful of short black runs. The resort has been investing in its ski area facilities too, extending snowmaking and upgrading the resort gondola. What’s more, despite a local VAT rise, prices for lift passes are still as low as 25 euros per day.
