Fog halts Adelboden race

Adelboden
Thickening fog and snow showers have forced officials in Adelboden to cancel the men’s World Cup giant slalom.
The International Ski Federation called off Saturday’s (8 Jan) race part way through the competition, deciding that conditions on the course were not safe for the remaining racers.
Most of the racers had completed their first runs when the event was abandoned in worsening visibility. The steep Adelboden course had already been shortened to bring the start lower down, and most of the top racers made it down without mishap – although the home nation’s Didier Cuche fell on his run.
The 32,000-strong spectators will be keeping their fingers crossed that Sunday’s slalom races will go ahead. At present, the forecast is for it to remain cloudy.
