Ischgl’s winter season opened on Friday 26 November with some of the best early snow for several years and a rocking performance from Beth Ditto and her Indie band Gossip.

The US band braved temperatures of -15C to give their concert in the resort centre, witnessed by a jolly crowd of skiers and snowboarders ready to kick start the season.

Beth joked: ‘It’s so warm I’ll have to wear a bikini next time. Ischgl is amazingly pretty. I know that’s a cliché and everyone says it, but it’s true! I’ve never skied, but this looks a wonderful place for those that do.’

The concert follows the Austrian resort’s legendary opening tradition, a big gig to start and a big gig to end. That end-of-season performance has yet to be announced, but if you’re thinking of escaping the UK’s royal wedding the extra bank holiday coincides with Ischgl’s Top of the Mountain concert on 30 April / 1 May 2011.

Ischgl’s slopes are now open, including the home runs to village level. If you’re looking to stay in Ischgl, Ski Total has this year opened the first chalet hotel in the resort – catered accommodation including all mod cons close to the centre.
